Romans, Arabs, Chinese, Italians and many others with foreign tongues came to the shores of East India to trade in the world’s finest fabric - Jamdani. It literally translates to flowers in a vase. This exquisite craft has withstood plunder and modernisation and continues to be statuesque in its softness - still breathing, still breathtaking. Jamdani is woven in fine cotton, with extra weft motifs inserted into the weave by hand with the help of a needle or shuttle. Work is evenly shared by the family, with the women mainly focused on preparing the yarn and the men involved in the final weaving. Jamdani is one of the finest human skills in the world. It is our privilege to be able to work with artisan families mastering this craft since generations, and learn from them.
