When the devastating earthquake of 2001 shook not just the earth of Kutch but the very foundation of life, one village decided this will not be their destiny. They moved to a new land; indigo, mineral and herbs used to blend colours in tow. They named their new village Ajrakhpur, after the craft they had inherited from their forefathers. Within ten years, they became one of the most celebrated block printing communities in the world. Ajrakh block printing is not just a craft style. It is a testimony of human skill and grit. The Summer House works extensively with Ajrakh craftsmen to create signature prints for our studio.
